Workflow phases
This chapter was written from the product's source code and has not yet been checked by a person on a running Cogneris. If what you see on screen differs, the screen is right — please tell your Cogneris contact so the chapter can be corrected.
A workflow is a graph of phases. You add them from the Nodes palette of the workflow editor — select one, or drag it onto the canvas — and connect each output of a phase to the phase that comes next. How to create, lay out and publish a workflow is in Design and publish a workflow; this part of the manual has one page per phase.

The palette
Nodes lists the phases in this order. A phase the editor cannot add at that moment is shown disabled.
| Phase | Page | Outputs |
|---|---|---|
| Start | Start | One |
| Crop | Crop | One |
| Split | Split — no longer offered; new versions cannot be published with it | One |
| Classification | Classification | Normal, Alternative |
| Extraction | Extraction | One |
| Zero Shot | Zero Shot | One |
| Facematch | Facematch | One |
| Cross-check | Cross-check | One |
| Manual Review | Manual Review | One |
| Conditional | Conditional | True, False |
| Generate document | Generate document | One |
| Signature | Signature | One |
| Signature validation | Signature validation | OK, NOK |
| REST integration | REST integration | Success, Not found, Error |
| Send | Send | One |
Which output is taken
Four phases choose one of their outputs once they have finished:
| Phase | Outputs | Which one is taken |
|---|---|---|
| Classification | Normal, Alternative | Alternative when a document is below the Classification Acceptance Threshold (80 if you never changed it) or was not classified; Normal otherwise. Only when Alternative is connected: without it, the run continues through Normal. See Classification. |
| Conditional | True, False | The answer to its question. |
| Signature validation | OK, NOK | Its verdict. |
| REST integration | Success, Not found, Error | Its result. |
For the last three, if the result cannot be read, none of their outputs is taken. Every other phase has a single output.
What changed. Before this version, Extraction and Manual Review also showed Normal and Alternative, and Classification never chose between its two: the phases connected to both outputs ran. Now:
- A Classification with both outputs connected runs only one of them — the one its threshold names. This applies to processes started after the change, also on versions already published.
- Extraction and Manual Review have one output. A version published before keeps running every link it has; a link that still leaves their Alternative output shows the badge Alternative not routed on the node, and a new version cannot be published until you connect that link to Normal.
To branch on anything else a phase found, connect it to a Conditional.
Phases that cannot run yet
AI Executor and Send Message are no longer offered in the palette: the service has no step that runs them. A workflow that contains either cannot be published — the editor says “…” uses a phase that cannot run yet. Remove it before publishing. A draft that still has one opens with the notice This phase cannot run yet on the node and in its settings. A version published before this change still fails at that node with No executor registered for phase '…'. See AI Executor and Send Message.
Pre-configured
When your company has connector presets, the palette shows them under Pre-configured. A preset is added as a REST integration phase with its settings filled in; its description appears as a tooltip. If the presets cannot be loaded, the group is not shown and the rest of the palette works as usual. The VIES check, for example, is a preset — see REST integration.
KYB
KYB is no longer offered in the palette: the VIES check it performed is now a preset of the REST integration. A workflow that already has a KYB phase still opens it, with a notice that converts it. See KYB.
Names on the canvas
A phase added to the canvas is named after the palette label. If you keep that default name, the editor shows it in the language you are using; a name you typed stays as you wrote it.
