Generate an API Key

API keys are issued from the Cogneris platform, under Vision → Developers → API Keys.

With the Cogneris MCP server connected, ask "create a sandbox Cogneris API key and put it in my .env". See the prompt cookbook.

  1. Sign in to your tenant on the Cogneris platform.
  2. Open Vision → Developers → API Keys.
  3. Click New API Key, give it a descriptive name, choose the Environment and confirm with Generate key. Production keys start with xtkt_live_ and are the only ones the synchronous /Document/* endpoints accept. Sandbox keys start with xtkt_test_ and cover only the asynchronous job flow.
  4. Copy the plaintext value shown in the dialog — the platform displays it only once.
  5. Store it in your secrets manager. You can revoke it from the same page at any time.
